For Abigail, this was to end as soon as it started, for she lost her father. She not only lost her father, she also lost Rachel (Her daughter). Her salon had earlier asked that she not return. Ostracized and having nowhere to turn, she resorted to all manner of menial jobs to sustain herself. “Everything happened too fast for me” she recalled. She was totally overwhelmed because aside of her loses, her health was deteriorating fast. She had enrolled at Amaya facility, a government sponsored trial cure program with nine others, however after four agonizing months during which time her cd4 count had dropped from 672 to 210, she had no choice to withdraw from the program. One day my husband took me out because he felt that the environment was the problem. He took me to a restaurant, after which we went to a joint. He then asked me to tell him what the problem is. He was worried about my attitude and concerned that I was not making him happy. I saw the pain in his eyes, and then I told him that doctors said that I have one ' kokoro' (virus) in my system that the Kokoro needs me to take N30, 000 worth of drugs every month. I was surprised at his calm and understanding. I told him that was the reason I told him we must use condom, then he said no problems. When I brought my drugs home, he started reading the instruction on it, he asked that is it because of HIV that I said I wasn't interested in the marriage .. » More |

I took ill in February 2003. I was seriously ill. I couldn't afford to see a doctor, so I did not bother to see one. I became a pitiable sight. I was driven out from where I was living at Alapere, Ketu, Lagos . I had no where to go. I went from one cheap hotel to the other, seeking refuge. Soon, I had no where to stay, even the hotels that I was hobnobbing could no longer afford to have me again due to my pity sight. Eventually I got a junkyard, because that's how the place looks like, the only thing the owner cared about was his money. This was a saving grace for me as I was able to get a place to stay at last. The guy cared more about his money than my appearance. It was in this hotel that word got to a pastor friend of mine that I have been holed up in a hotel, and dying. He came to the hotel and took me to his house at Ilupeju, also in Lagos...» More |

I thank God for what the lord is doing today; I thank him for what the lord is doing in my life and my family. I was able to start a new family today after I got enough information about HIV and I can boast anywhere that I know enough about HIV. When I realize that despite having HIV you can still have children that will not be positive and having verified it, so, it was then I decided that I have to remarry and in December 2004 I got married to a lady, a very beautiful lady sitting beside me, she's my queen, the most beautiful lady in Nigeria. We met at a program in Abuja and that was how we came together. She's about to deliver now and by the grace of God the baby will be fine and test negative. .. » More |

| Yes, within the cause of a year. That's the figure we have, though it can be explained. We found out that another major factor responsible for the low response is the issue of poverty. When you attach a prize to it, people will not test. After some time, what we did was to announce a free testing service, but we realize that inspite of the free testing, peoples' response particularly at our centre still remained low, so, what we did was to go on mobile testing. We had a project to execute, so we decided to go meet our people at their work place....» More |
