The BBC World Service Trust Nigeria is empowering Nigerian youths with the necessary information and skills to adopt behaviours that would prevent them from HIV infection and reduce stigma attached to the disease. The approach is a mass media campaign that relies heavily on entertainment to attract a wide youth audience on radio, TV and film. Presently, the radio program broadcast on more than 50 Nigerian radio stations and are called FLAVA (in English) and Ya Take Ne? (in Housa).
With support from UNAIDS and UNICEF, two more activities (A Media Skills workshop and a Radio Production Attachments) that supports the project is currently attracting applications from youths from across the country. These activities will see over 30 selected candidates from across Nigeria acquire basic knowledge on media and communication techniques, while some young Nigerians living with HIV/AIDS shall work with the BBC WST in Abuja for three months on internship, acquiring media skills which they can put to good use in their home organisations after the program.
Interested participants are requested to send their application before April 24, 2004.
Download information and application here as from 5 PM April 13, 2006.
