Adedeji's devotion and commitment to covering HIV/AIDS stories was recognised when he was nominated for the 2005 best features category of the Red Ribbon Award.  He has won in the best individual category on stigma and discrimination earlier, back to back in 2001-2003. According to his assigning editor, “further exposure to HIV/AIDS issues and an opportunity to have him engage with others at the training will ensure a stronger and more effective response to AIDS through our medium”. Adedeji’s focus during the program as he stated “will be on community responses to HIV/AIDS, especially the responses of my fellow journalists about how they can be more sympathetic to the cause”.
